SAIC is seeking multiple levels of  Cable Fabrication Technicians  to join our team in  North Charleston, SC  to support the  US Navy to perform cable fabrication work by reading and interpreting drawings, schematics, and cable run sheets to assemble cables.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Perform cable fabrication work for multiple government projects
  • Read and interpret drawings, schematics, and cable run sheets to verify correct build of cables
  • Assemble cables to specifications via cable run sheets and/or schematics; to include but not limited to multi-pin connectors and RF cables
  • Assemble cable harnesses and junction box assemblies; including MIL-SPEC cylindrical connectors, back shells, terminal boxes, and radio frequency (RF)
  • Proficient in the use, care and maintenance of crimp tools, heat gun, and various electrical and mechanical tools
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, test and check all of the cables that are built and produced in the shop using TMDE (test, measure, and diagnostic equipment)
  • Keep accurate inventories of all tools and materials on hand

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Level 1 Engineering Technician Requirements:

  • Education: Associate’s Degree in Engineering Technology, math, or science; or Formal electronics training from: Technical School, or Class A or B military school in electronics or communications; or four-year electronics apprentice program; or High School diploma or GED
  • Experience: No experience with degree/formal training or three (3) years with HS/GED of practical experience to include performing one or a combination of the following duties: assembling or installing equipment or parts requiring simple wiring, soldering, or connecting; performing simple or routine tasks or tests such as tensile or hardness tests; operating and adjusting simple test equipment; records test data; and gathering and maintaining specified records of engineering data such as tests, drawings, etc.; performing computations by substituting numbers in specified formulas; plotting data and draws simple curves and graphs. Individual shall be capable of performing simple routine tasks under close supervision or from detailed procedures. Work is checked in progress or on completion

Level 2 Engineering Technician Requirements:

  • Education: Associate’s Degree in Engineering Technology, math, or science; or Formal electronics training from: Technical School, or Class A or B military school in electronics or communications; or four-year electronics apprentice program; or High School diploma or GED
  • Experience: Two (2) with degree/formal training or four (4)  years with HS/GED of practical experience to include performing one or a combination of the following duties: following specific instructions, assembles or constructs simple or standard equipment or parts, servicing or repairing simple instruments or equipment; conducting a variety of tests using established methods, preparing test specimens, adjusting and operating equipment, recording test data, and pointing out deviations resulting from equipment malfunction or observational errors; extracting engineering data from various prescribed but non-standardized sources, processing the data following well-defined methods including elementary algebra and geometry, and presenting the data in prescribed form. Individual shall be capable of performing standardized or prescribed assignments involving a sequence of related operations, follows standard work methods on recurring assignments but receives explicit instructions on unfamiliar assignments. Technical adequacy of routine work is reviewed on completion; non-routine work may be reviewed in progress

Level 3 Engineering Technician Requirements:

  • Education: Associate’s Degree in Engineering Technology, math, or science; or Formal electronics training from: Technical School, or Class A or B military school in electronics or communications; or four-year electronics apprentice program; or High School diploma or GED
  • Experience:  Three (3) with degree/formal training or five (5) years with HS/GED of practical experience to include design, preparation and modification of engineering documents and drawings. Individual shall have notable experience performing one or a combination of the following duties: constructing components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment; may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions; following specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment; conducting various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data; extracting and compiling a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation; and assisting in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts; developing information concerning previous operational failures and modifications, and using judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information. Individual shall be capable of performing assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed, performs recurring work independently. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions

Level 1 Electronics Technician Requirements:

  • Education: High School diploma or GED.  Formal electronics training from: Technical School, or Class A or B military school in electronics or communications, or four (4) year electronics apprentice program.  Formal electronics training, to include: Installation Tasks, Soldering, Cable Dressing, Cable Tray, Conduit, and Making/Repairing Connectors
  • Experience : Two (2) years of practical experience, to include: electronics repair, maintenance and checkout

Level 2 Electronics Technician Requirements:

  • Education: High School diploma or GED. Formal electronics training from: Technical School, or Class A or B military school in electronics or communications, or four (4) year electronics apprentice program.  Formal electronics training, to include: Installation Tasks, Soldering, Cable Dressing, Cable Tray, Conduit, and Making/Repairing Connectors
  • Experience:  Four (4) years of practical experience, to include: electronics repair, maintenance and checkout. Must demonstrate at least one (1) year of practical experience in electronics installation. Experience may be achieved simultaneously

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have experience with cable fabrication, to include assembling connectors, cable harnesses, junction boxes, etc.
  • Must have related experience in laboratory testing, manufacturing, or maintenance
  • Must be proficient with all tools related to cable fabrication

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to lift, pull, push and carry up to 50 pounds, unassisted, on a regular basis
  • Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, sit, stand or squat for extended periods
  • Must be able to walk distances of at least one-half mile daily
  • Must be able to repeatedly manipulate and handle objects needed for cable fabrication, including reaching, grasping, twisting, turning and operating equipment and tools
  • Must be able to move and arrange heavy cable supplies and electronic equipment

REQUIRED CLEARANCE:

  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust; SAIC will help to obtain; Active DoD Clearance accepted
  • Must be a current U.S. Citizen
