PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

Mercy Corps (MC) is a non-profit, voluntary humanitarian aid agency, registered in the United States and
Scotland with offices in more than 40 countries around the world. Mercy Corps has been addressing the
humanitarian needs in Jordan through a diverse portfolio of development and relief programs for the past 12
years. Mercy Corps exists to alleviate suffering, poverty, and oppression by helping people build secure,
productive, and just communities. Since the beginning of the Syrian civil war almost five years ago, Mercy Corps
has worked to address the urgent needs of nearly 4 million people both inside Syria and in neighboring countries

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
The Finance Intern will join the Finance Department, reporting directly to the Finance Manager for Accounting and
Compliance. In this role, She/ He will support the team by ensuring the accuracy and completeness of Mercy
Corps' Syria accounting records and by preparing various financial reconciliations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Assisting with month-end processes and routine financial tasks.
2. Assist with various reconciliations such as Bank, Cash, advances, receivables, payables, etc.
3. Verifying hard copies of employee expense reports and their supporting documents.
4. Maintain a soft and hard filing system and organize and maintain the Finance SharePoint.
5. Assist during the audit processes.
6. Other tasks assigned by the supervisor.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Through the internship, the intern will acquire:
• Practical Financial Experience: Gain hands-on experience in daily financial operations,
including data entry, reconciliations, and document management.
• Financial Reporting & Analysis: Develop skills in preparing financial reports, journal entries,
and understanding the underlying principles of financial analysis.
• Compliance & Documentation: Understand the importance of internal controls and compliance,
while learning how to maintain both digital and physical filing systems in line with Mercy Corps
policies.
• Technical Proficiency: Build proficiency in using the Mercy Corps Accounting System
(Navigator) when applicable, and MS office.
• Collaboration & Communication: Enhance teamwork and communication skills by working
closely with various team members and supporting cross-functional initiatives.

DELIVERABLES:
The intern is expected to provide support to the team in terms of:
• Supporting Document Verification: Review and verify supporting documents for financial transactions
to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Filing System Management: Maintain a proper filing system of all financial records.
• Policy Adherence: Ensure all tasks are completed in accordance with Mercy Corps' internal policies and
procedures.
• General Team Support: Assist with additional administrative and documentation tasks as needed to
support the Finance team.
