PART-TIME VISITING LECTURER IN MUSIC (MUSIC HISTORY)
FALL 2025

Scripps College, a women's liberal arts college with a strong interdisciplinary tradition, invites applications for a one-semester, part-time Visiting Lecturer position in Music, to teach one music history course: MUS110a Music in Western Civilization (Ancient World to Baroque) . The textbooks used for this first course in the music history sequence are: Hanning's Concise History of Western Music (Fifth Edition, Anthology Update) and Norton Anthology of Western Music , (Eighth Edition, Volume 1: Ancient to Baroque) by Palisca et al. The position is for the Fall 2025 semester, August 1 to December 31, 2025. PhD preferred, ABD with teaching experience considered. The salary for this position will range from $8,460 to $9,400 and will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

Scripps College provides instruction in music theory, music history, ethnomusicology, and performance to both majors and non-majors in a challenging liberal arts setting. Students from all other colleges in the Claremont Consortium (including Pomona, Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, and Pitzer Colleges) also enroll in music courses at Scripps College.
