Position Summary:

The University of Idaho Department of UI Extension 4-H Youth Development, located in Boise, Caldwell, Moscow, or Twin Falls , Idaho, invites applications for a fiscal year tenure track, Assistant or Associate Area Extension Educator position in 4-H to provide state-wide program leadership. The 4-H Volunteer Leadership Development ( VLD ) Area Extension Educator position reports to the Director of the UI Extension 4-H Youth Development (YD) program and is responsible for providing statewide leadership for an effective volunteer management system for all 4-H volunteers. (5%) The VLD Area Extension Educator serves as the 4-H YD lead in awareness, understanding, and compliance with the application of laws, policies, and procedures as they relate to volunteer involvement in the UI Extension 4-H YD program. (80%) The position works closely with the UI Risk Management personnel to assure that volunteers representing the UI 4-H YD program are uniformly screened and trained before working with youth. The VLD Area Extension Educator is responsible for staying up-to-date on research in the field of volunteer leadership and development and training county faculty and staff in best practices of volunteer leadership and development. (15%) The VLD Area Extension Educator is a member of the western regional and national 4-H teams developing curriculum and training for volunteer development and management. As the statewide team lead, the VLD Area Extension Educator will implement the Plan of Work for volunteer leadership development and the evaluation of key statewide programs related to volunteers. Rank and tenure are negotiable based on how the candidate meets the criteria outlined in department and college bylaws.

Minimum Education/Degree Required:
Listed degree qualification is required at time of hire.
Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in human development, adult development, education, or closely related field. 
  • Experience working with volunteer and youth programs.
  • Experience problem-solving and facilitating differences.
  • Experience coordinating, planning, implementing and managing events, workshops, trainings, and programs.
  • Experience organizing and preparing information and materials, and communicating both orally and in writing via technologies, in person and in groups.
  • Experience with Microsoft office, on-line and social media applications.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in Extension, preferably 4-H Youth Development, volunteer management systems and/or network/collaboration experience with volunteer organizations.
  • Experience in conflict resolution and devising solutions to problems.
  • Experience developing, recommending, writing and evaluating program procedures, policies, technical manuals or rules/regulations and recommending changes.
  • Experience providing technical program assistance to staff and volunteers and generating curriculum and resource materials.
  • Experience gathering, assembling, correlating, and analyzing facts.
  • Experience in grant and budget management.
  • Experience working in cross-cultural environments.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
  • Flexible work schedule including some weekends, willingness to travel and possess a valid drivers license.
  • Physical ability to lift and/or otherwise move 35 lbs.
